The way to clean area rugs really depends on the size of the carpet.  If it is a small area rug often times, it can simply be shaken out or vacuumed to remove dirt and debris.  But, if it is a special oriental rug or hand made rug it may require dry cleaning it in Coral Gables.  You can find out by the tags on these special rugs if it requires special care, so be sure to always keep the tags on your area rugs.

Basic area rug cleaning is done the same as any carpet cleaning.  You should vacuum the carpet regularly to remove dirt.  If you have stains like alcohol or coffee, try mixing a teaspoon of liquid dish soap with about a quart of warm water and ¼ teaspoon of white vinegar.  Blot it on the stain.  If this does not work there are many over the counter spot carpet cleaners that may help remove tough stains.  Use a soft wire broom or brush to help remove pet hair.  And sometimes raking it helps removed tough dirt and gives the rug a nice clean look.  But, be careful not to vacuum or rake the borders or trim.

Several brands of deodorant today are made with gel, so there is usually not a stain left on clothing. But because of the expense of gels, most people still use the powdered brands of deodorant.  The white powdered stains these brands leave under your arms or on your clothes while applying is not easy to remove.  There are ways to remove deodorant stains from clothing, but it is recommended to take it to a professional dry cleaner before trying these tips.  Many materials like silk, or rayon can loose their color if not treated correctly, so consider this option before treating the stain yourself.

If the fabric cannot be washed, try diluting rubbing alcohol with 2 parts of water, then try to apply this to the stain with a soft cotton absorbent cloth.  Let it stand as long as you see the stain leaving.  If this doesn’t work, try using a little warm soapy water or a little ammonia added to water.   White vinegar and water can sometimes help tougher deodorant stains.  Whichever of these you try, remember to then rinse the material carefully.
