Ft. Lauderdale’s Green Dry Cleaning Experts Explain Eco Friendly Dry Cleaning

Do you really know what "green" dry cleaning in Fort Lauderdale is? Should you be concerned how your clothes are cleaned? Is there any advantage to using an eco-friendly dry cleaning service like Dry Clean Xpress over a traditional dry cleaner?

We think it's important that you understand how your garments are cleaned and what the risks may be to you and your family by patronizing a cleaner who uses traditional methods.

Dry Cleaning is not "Dry" at All

Dry cleaning is called dry cleaning because traditionally there is no water involved in the process. That doesn't mean your clothes don't get wet. For decades a synthetic, volatile organic compound called perchlorethylene (Perc for short) has been used to saturate your suits, sweaters and other "dry clean only" items to loosen the soil in the fabric. The perc is then removed from the fabric through a spinning process, cleaned, and reused again.

Perc can cause dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, nausea, and skin and respiratory irritation. It's estimated that 85% of the dry cleaners in the U.S. still operate under the traditional method. This not only puts their customers at risk (think about that when you get that slight whiff of chemical smell when you remove the garment bag) but also to workers who are exposed to it over a long period of time.

There's a better, and in many cases less expensive way.

Eco-friendly Dry Cleaning is Healthier, Less Expensive, and a Responsible Way of Doing Business

At Dry Clean Xpress we committed to green dry cleaning because it's the right thing to do and it gives us a competitive edge over traditional cleaners. Here are a few advantages green has for you as a customer and us as a business:

  • We use the latest green technology from the industry leading Italian company Firbimatic that is recognized as a leader in organic dry cleaning. The equipment is exceptionally low energy consuming but more importantly it has the CoalPerc Carbon Absorption System which continuously filters all carbon produced and serves to greatly reduce our carbon footprint.
  • We have introduced "wet cleaning" which eliminates solvents altogether and uses biodegradable soap. This process is appropriate for many fabrics and is actually better at removing stains from some fabrics than dry cleaning.
  • We made the change to "green" in 2004 which required a significant investment in organic cleaning equipment. We did it because it was the right thing to do for our customers and our community. Thanks to the help and assistance from the Florida Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) we are now considered to be Green.

Reducing or removing chemicals from the process is healthier for everyone. Reducing the amount of energy required to do the cleaning means a smaller carbon footprint on Boca Raton and surrounding communities.

If your clothes deserve to be organically cleaned, call us today with your order. New customers get 10% off their first order! Call today.
